We know this because the fine folks at AuburnUndercover.com and AuburnSports.com reported it earlier tonight.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pound receiver from Leroy, Ala., originally committed to Southern Miss in March.
Coates, a former high school teammate of Auburn quarterback Clint Moseley, was a first-team all-state selection as a junior after making 50 catches for 875 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Rivals lists him as a three-star recruit and the No. 33 player in the state. Scout lists him as a two-star recruit.
Coates is Auburn's ninth commitment for 2011 and its first wide receiver.
Here's the Tigers' updated commitment list:
- Angelo Blackson, DL, 6-5, 289, 3-star, Bear, Del. (Red Lion Christian Academy)
- Sammie Coates, WR, 6-3, 170, 2-star, Leroy, Ala. (Leroy High)
- Reese Dismukes, C, 6-3, 272, 4-star, Spanish Fort, Ala. (Spanish Fort High)
- Kiehl Frazier, QB, 6-3, 215, 4-star, Springdale, Ark. (Shiloh Christian)
- Chris Landrum, LB, 6-2, 215, 3-star, Sweet Water, Ala. (Sweet Water High)
- Izauea Lanier, DB, 6-1, 190, NR, Gordo, Ala. (East Mississippi CC)
- JaBrian Niles, DE, 6-2, 270, 3-star, Mobile, Ala. (Davidson High)
- Thomas O'Reilly, OL, 6-3, 315, 3-star, Marietta, Ga. (Pope High)
- Anthony Swain, S, 6-3, 215, 3-star, Gadsden, Ala. (Gadsden City High)
Hopefully, he'll earn some more "stars" this season. If not, I'm sure Chizik can "coach him up". After all, Chiz's mentor was the master of "coaching up" the 2* and 3* players.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good pickup. According to reports he was exceptional at yesterday's camp.
ReplyDeleteWith Richardson to re-sign from last year we are probably only one WR away from being full at that position for this class.
