Auburn added another wide receiver when Jeremey Richardson of Springville, Ala., signed this morning. He is the first from Alabama to sign.

Richardson is 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. Rivals ranks him as a four-star recruit, ranking him the 27th best receiver overall and 199th nationally. It has him as the No. 7 recruit in the state. Scout has him as a three-star recruit and the 65th best receiver.

As a junior, Richardson had 61 catches for 1,228 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Richardson has all the tools to become an outstanding player. He has the size, speed and creates a lot of problems for defensve backs. He is quick and extremely athletic.

Auburn added its second kicker of the class when Kansas City, Mo., punter/kicker Steven Clark sent in his letter of intent.

The 6-foot-5, 23o-pound Clark is a two-star recruit by both Rivals and Scout. Rivals ranks him as the No. 20 kicker overall.

Clark also played defensive end and tight end at Park Hill High School. He averaged nearly 40 yards per punt as a junior. Reportedly he and fellow signee Cody Parkey finished 1-2 at the Jamie Cole Kicking Camp this summer.

Auburn has former preseason All-SEC punter Ryan Shoemaker in line to start next season, so it might be a redshirt year for Clark. Then again, Shoemaker has lost a position battle before.

And Auburn's on the board for 2010. Place-kicker Cody Parkey and wide receiver Antonio Goodwin are the first two players to officially fax in their letters of intent.

Parkey's been in the fold for a while. He committed when Tommy Tuberville was the coach. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound kicker from Jupiter, Fla., is Rivals' No. 6 overall kicker and Scout's No. 2. He struggled in an all-star game recently, missing a pair of extra points and a gimme field goal, but he's a pretty good talent. He made field goals of 51 and 55 yards as a junior.

I can't imagine Parkey playing right away, with senior Wes Byrum entrenched at the position after a solid year. But Parkey appears to be the place-kicker-in-waiting.

Goodwin is from Atlanta and went to Washington High. He's 6-foot-2, 170 pounds and was selected for the Under Armour All-American game. Both Rivals and Scout rank him as a four-star player. Rivals has him as the No. 39 wide receiver and Scout at No. 30.

Goodwin wavered a bit on his commitment but re-committed in December.

Here's Scout.com South Region analyst Chad Simmons' take on him:

"Goodwin is one of the fastest prospects in the state of Georgia and that is what makes him a top recruit. He is a vertical threat, he is explosive, and he is someone that can make a big play downfield at any time. He needs to work on his route running and catching the ball more consistent. He has great length (6-2), he goes up for jump balls well, and his best ball is ahead of him."

Rise and shine, it's National Signing Day. Recruits can start faxing in their letters of intent at 7 a.m., which has already started in the Eastern time zone. The blog will be here throughout the day updating posts as more recruits sign.

AUBURN, Ala. — Marcus Lattimore is staying close to home.

The five-star running back from Duncan, S.C., announced his intentions to sign with in-state South Carolina instead of Auburn at a ceremony at his church in Spartanburg, S.C., Tuesday evening.

The ceremony had a twist. Former Auburn running back Stephen Davis, a Spartanburg High product, gave Lattimore a bag just before he announced his decision. Lattimore took out an Auburn hat, but underneath it was a South Carolina one. He put that one on as the crowd in the church cheered.

"That was the best fit for me," Lattimore said. "That's where my heart is."

The 6-foot, 210-pound Byrnes High standout is ranked by Rivals as the No. 1-ranked running back the 10th overall recruit nationally.

"I feel like I just lost 50 pounds, I swear," he said after making his announcement.

Lattimore narrowed a list of 30 offers down to South Carolina and Auburn.

Tigers head coach Gene Chizik and a few assistants made one final push for Lattimore late last week, paying the recruit an in-home visit. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier did the same.

"He did the Cha-Cha Slide with my mama," Lattimore said.

Lattimore is the only running back in the Gamecocks' recruiting class. Auburn still has ESPN's No. 1 overall running back, Michael Dyer, in its class.

Recruits officially fax in their letters of intent on National Signing Day tomorrow.

I'm not doing the daily links in the football offseason, but I saw this article on SportsIllustrated.com today by Stewart Mandel, who gives Auburn props for stacking up against college football's heavyweights in recruiting.

Mandel quotes Scouts, Inc., recruiting director Tom Luginbill as saying Chizik has modeled his "family atmosphere" approach after Texas' Mack Brown, one of the nation's best recruiters.

In unsurprising news, Lincoln, Ala., running back D.J. Howard will not sign with Auburn. The running back told Palmetto Sports that his choice is down to Clemson and Kentucky.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Howard, a three-star recruit, has been an Auburn commit since July. His intent was to play running back in college and did not feel he'd get that opportunity at Auburn.

Howard will announce his decision between Clemson and Kentucky tomorrow morning.

Auburn added one big-name recruit to the fold yesterday when defensive tackle Jeffrey Whitaker (Warner Robins, Ga.) committed to the Tigers.

Today, it could be five-star running back Marcus Lattimore of Duncan, S.C. The Byrnes High product will make an announcement tonight at his church at 6 p.m. ET.

Lattimore has been tight-lipped in the last week of the process but broke his silence to speak to the Sporting News the other day. He did not tip his hand. Here's what he had to say:

On South Carolina:

"If I go to South Carolina, I'd be a big-time receiver out of the backfield and I'd also run the ball a lot. I'm excited about that because I love catching the ball. I know it's going to be a challenge, but I've seen when coach (Steve) Spurrier was at Florida, when he had a great tailback like Fred Taylor and Errict Rhett and how he used them. I've seen tape on how he used them."

On Auburn:

"I think I'm going to be able to make plays at Auburn. I know I'd be utilized in the Wildcat offense like Darren McFadden was at Arkansas."

I see no favorites in those comments. Guess we'll have to wait until 6 p.m. to find out. The blog will update with info as soon as we get it.

AUBURN, Ala. — Four-star defensive tackle Jeffrey Whitaker committed to Auburn on Monday, the first of four high-profile announcements that could go the Tigers' way in the days leading up to National Signing Day.

Whitaker, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound tackle from Warner Robins, Ga., made his decision known at his high school.

"It just felt comfortable," Whitaker said at a press conference streamed live on the Internet. "There was like no question. I couldn't turn away from it. It just felt like home when I went to Auburn."

Rivals ranks him as the No. 5 defensive tackle in the country and the No. 54 player overall. He also considered Georgia and Miami.

Whitaker is the 24th player who has agreed to sign with Auburn on Wednesday. Five players who enrolled in January, including junior college quarterback Cameron Newton, count against last year's class.

Whitaker is the second defensive tackle in the Tigers' class, joining Kenneth Carter, a four-star recruit from Greenville, Ala.

Auburn hopes Whitaker's announcement is the start of a trend. The Tigers await decisions from three more prized recruits in the upcoming days.

It's officially February. Signing Day is almost here, but plenty of drama remains in the days leading up to it. Auburn is a finalist for four big-name recruits in the next few days. Here's the rundown of who's announcing in the upcoming days:

• Today: Four-star DT Jeffrey Whitaker (Warner Robins, Ga.) will pick between Auburn, Georgia and Miami at a 2 p.m. ET ceremony at his high school. Rivals ranks him as the No. 5 defensive tackle in the country.
  

• Tuesday: Five-star RB Marcus Lattimore (Duncan, S.C.) will pick between Auburn and South Carolina. Coaches from both staffs made their final push for the elite recruit, who is ranked by Rivals as the No. 1 back in the nation. Tigers head coach Gene Chizik made an in-home visit last Friday. The announcement will take place at Lattimore's church at 6 p.m.

• Wednesday: There will be some signing day drama when four-star DT Byran Jones (Junction City, Ark.) and four-star DE Corey Lemonier (Hialeah, Fla.) make their decisions known. Jones is down to Arkansas and Auburn; Lemonier to Florida State and Auburn.

Auburn currently has 23 players set to sign on Feb. 3. But two appear uncertain if they'll end up on the Plains:

• Five-star OL Shon Coleman (Olive Branch, Miss.) visited Miami this weekend after a mid-week visit to Alabama. He's been committed to Auburn since April but has followed through on his promise to take all of his official visits. He's also been to Arkansas.
  

• Three-star ATH D.J. Howard (Lincoln, Ala.), an Auburn commit since July, took a visit to Kentucky last weekend, a week after checking out Clemson He reportedly wants to play running back in college. Auburn, with Michael Dyer already in the fold and possibly Lattimore in the future, seems like an odd choice for him if that's the case. Howard is announcing where he'll go on Wednesday.
  

So who's going where? Good question. The blog stumbled across this article on SuperPrep.com that quoted Hurricanes defensive tackle commit/amateur soothsayer Jeffrey Brown, who spent time with a few of these players on an official visit in Miami this weekend.

• On Whitaker: "He liked (Miami) too, but I think he's going to Auburn."

• On Coleman: "I didn't talk to him much. I think he's going to Alabama."

Does that mean anything? Possibly. Such is the ambiguous nature of any recruiting news until signing day actually gets here and the letters of intent come across the fax machines. It'll certainly make for an interesting few days with the Internet potentially crashing on several occasions. Stay tuned.
