Tubby Smith says Auburn rumors are 'just talk'

Tubby Smith said rumors linking him to the Auburn job were "just talk" shortly after Minnesota was eliminated from the NCAA tournament by Xavier this afternoon.

"Well, obviously that's just talk, because I'm very pleased with what we've accomplished here," Smith said in the post-game press conference. "I'm pleased with where we are in the program. I'm looking forward to coming back to Minnesota."

A CBS Sportsline report early Friday said Smith was close to leaving Minnesota for Auburn. Other reports state that Smith is one of the Tigers' primary targets to replace Jeff Lebo, who was fired a week ago.

The 58-year-old Smith has been rumored to be a candidate for the Oregon job as well. Asked if he's been offered a job by any other school, he said, "No. No, I haven't."

Smith just finished his third season with the Gophers. He's led them to three straight 20-win seasons and has a 63-39 record with the school. Minnesota has made the NCAA tournament the last two seasons. It made the field as an 11 seed this year but lost to sixth-seeded Xavier 65-54 Friday.

Smith, who has also had stops at Tulsa, Georgia and Kentucky, is 450-184 in 19 seasons as a head coach.
