Cornerback Aairon Savage, who missed last season after dislocating his right knee cap and tearing both his ACL and MCL, suffered another injury during a summer workout, although Auburn did not reveal its severity.
AuburnSports.com reported that Savage suffered an Achilles' injury.
Here's head coach Gene Chizik's official statement from this afternoon: "Aairon Savage did suffer an injury while working out, and at this time, the extent of the injury is still being evaluated by our medical staff."
Savage, who is entering his fifth year on the Plains, was expected to provide depth at cornerback this season behind starters Walt McFadden and Neiko Thorpe. The Tigers still have plenty of depth at cornerback, with redshirt freshman T'Sharvan Bell and sophomore D'Antoine Hood on the second team.
If Savage's injury is severe enough that he'll miss the season, he could apply to the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver that would give him a sixth year of eligibility, since he already lost one season due to an injury.
Defensive tackle Tez Doolittle did just that after rupturing his Achilles' in 2007, returning in 2008 and having a productive season.

I don't know why, when it was previously reported that he had torn his achilles, that the coach now becomes nebulous when asked the nature of Savage's injury
