Auburn-West Virginia game delayed

Greetings, from a soggy Jordan-Hare Stadium. The rain was falling pretty hard about a half hour ago. It's slowed to a trickle but appears as though it will be periodic throughout the night if this forecast from Weather.com is accurate (60 percent chance of rain).

Check back here for periodic updates right up until kickoff. And follow the blog on Twitter while you're at it. You don't want to be left behind in the technological revolution, do you?

Just got handed some pre-game notes:
  • Mike Blanc will start for Nick Fairley at DT.
  • Eltoro Freeman will start for Adam Herring at RLB.
  • And WR Tim Hawthorne will dress for tonight's game. He's been out with a broken bone in his foot since this summer.
  • The eagle flight is also TBA because of the weather.
Here are a few interesting nuggets from the pre-game notes package:
  • Auburn is the only team in the country with two players averaging over 100 yards a game (Ben Tate, Onterio McCalebb).
  • The Tigers have finished with over 500 yards of offense in back-to-back games for the first time since 1970.
  • Auburn has rushed for more than 300 yards in back-to-back games for the first time since 1985.
  • The Tigers are 17-3 in home night games since 2000, with four victories over ranked teams.
  • Auburn has won 17 straight games with Gene Chizik as a member of its coaching staff.
  • The Tigers have won 51 consecutive games when scoring 30 or more points in a game, a streak dating back to 1996.
  • Auburn is 5-3-1 all-time against teams currently in the Big East. It has lost two straight to Big East teams (West Virginia last year, South Florida in 2007).
  • West Virginia is 44-9 in its last 53 games.
  • WVU has only allowed nine 100-yard rushers in its last 53 games.
  • Since 2000, the Mountaineers are 60-1 when scoring 30 or more points.
  • WVU quarterback Jarrett Brown is 4-0 as a starter.
  • The Mountaineers are 8-1 when Noel Devine rushes for at least 100 yards in a game.
  • WVU is 22-17-2 all-time against teams from the SEC. It has won five straight.
  • This is the first regular season game West Virginia has ever played in Alabama.
Some players are starting to trickle out:
  • Hawthorne is dressed and doesn't appear to have anything bulky or cumbersome on his foot as protection. It will be interesting to see how much he'll play today.
  • TE Tommy Trott is dressed. He's got braces on both knees.
  • DE Nosa Eguae still not dressed. Has a boot on his right foot.
  • LB Wade Christopher is not dressed either.
  • I've post a new picture at the top of this entry. That's the view looking south of the stadium. It's rapidly getting worse and is probably going to pour here pretty soon.
  • Yup, it's pouring.
  • Auburn just asked fans to clear the stadium. The student section is not budging, bellowing out the lyrics to CCR's "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" Game will start 30 minutes after last lightning strike.
  • There is already a LOT of standing water on the field. This will be a test for this field to see how it holds up.
  • Still waiting for officials to wind that 30-minute clock. We're looking at at least an hour delay here. The field seems to be draining pretty well. I assume Auburn has a heck of a drainage system for this particular scenario.
