Auburn cracks top 5 in polls, first time since 2006

Both polls are out and the Auburn Tigers are back in the top-five for the first time in four years.

Auburn, which beat Arkansas 65-43 Saturday, moved up two spots, coming in fifth in both the Associated Press and USA Today coaches' polls.

It's the highest the Tigers have been in the either poll since being No. 5 in both rankings in the Nov. 5 poll of 2006.

Auburn (7-0, 4-0 SEC) earned one first-place vote in the coaches' poll, something that hasn't happened since getting one vote Oct. 1 in 2006.

The initial Bowl Championship Series rankings will be released tonight on ESPN.

Here's the coaches' poll top-10:

As usual, here's a breakdown of where Auburn wound up on the AP ballots:
  • Nobody had the Tigers No. 1, but five voters had them No. 2: Craig James of ABC, Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune, Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News and Tom Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
  • Four of those voters had Oregon No. 1; Wilner had Oklahoma on top.
  • Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News had Auburn third, along with Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
  • Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News, the state's other voter, was one of 10 voters to have Auburn fourth.
  • The lowest Auburn was ranked was seventh. Two voters had the Tigers there: Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, who had Utah fifth and Michigan State sixth, and Bob Hammond of the Laramie Daily Boomerang, who had one-loss Alabama fourth and one-loss Ohio State sixth.
  • Average ranking this week: 4.68.
  • Most common ranking: 5th.

Hey Andy, where's your breakdown of how the voters voted?? If any week this week is when I'm really curious to see how they did.
