Finally back in Auburn: New polls out, game time announced for Arkansas matchup

Made it back from Lexington in 6.5 hours. And yes, I obeyed all major traffic laws in doing so. While I was in the car, a couple of things happened, which I retweeted but will post here anyway.

First of all, Auburn's kickoff against Arkansas this Saturday will be 3:30 p.m. ET. CBS will televise the game.

Secondly, the polls are out. Auburn is seventh in both of them, up one spot from last week.

Here's a glance at each:

USA Today coaches' poll:
1. Ohio State (49), 6-0, 1,455 points, LW: 2
2. Oregon (6), 1,388 points, LW: 3
3. Boise State (1), 5-0, 1,335 points, LW: 4
4. Nebraska (2), 5-0 1,272 points, LW: 6
5. TCU (1), 6-0, 1,213 points, LW: 5
6. Oklahoma, 5-0, 1193 points, LW: 7
7. Auburn, 6-0, 1,060 points, LW: 8
8. Alabama, 5-1, 1,029 points, LW: 1
9. LSU, 6-0, 1,021 points, LW: 9
10. Utah, 5-0, 940 points, LW: 10
Associated Press:
1. Ohio State (34), 6-0, 1,453 points, LW: 2
2. Oregon (15), 6-0, 1,427 points, LW: 3
3. Boise State (8), 5-0, ,1,395 points, LW: 4
4. TCU (1), 6--0, 1,304 points, LW: 5
5. Nebraska, 5-0, 1,246 points, LW: 6
6. Oklahoma (2) 5-0, 1,225 points, LW: 7
7. Auburn, 6-0, 1,104 points, LW: 8
8. Alabama, 5-1, ,1,021 points, LW: 1
9. LSU, 6-0, 999 points, LW: 12
10. South Carolina, 4-1, 978 points, LW: 19
And like we normally do, here's a breakdown of the AP ballots:
  • The Tigers again are on all the ballots.
  • Highest ranking is third by Mark Anderson of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Erik Hansen of the South Bend Tribune has Auburn fourth and Rob Long of Fox-1370 radio in Baltimore has it fifth.
  • The lowest ranking? Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times, who has the Tigers 14th. He dropped them two spots after beating Kentucky on the road.
  • Five other voters have Auburn ranked 10th or higher.
  • State voters Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News and Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News have the Tigers seventh. (Hurt, it should be noted, dropped Alabama to 11th. Solomon dropped the Tide to 10th.)
  • Most common ranking? Seventh. Right where Auburn is. Average ranking of 7.6.

I don't smoke, but I'd be willing to try some of whatever it is they are inhaling.

I don't know, Tarheek. Look at who is ahead of us. BSU, TCU and Nebraska haven't beaten near the teams Auburn has.

I'd vote us in the top five, mainly because some that are currently ahead of us don't belong anywhere near top 5.

I am a rabid Auburn fan, but I am not sold on our pass defense. Can we stop TCU, Boise St. Oklahoma or Ohio from passing on us? We will see this week against Mallet. This ranking (7) is fair if not generous.

We're stopping the run and when Thorpe doesn't get beat deep (Clemson game) we're stopping the long pass. It's not possible to defend all areas to perfection.

Yes, I'd like a better defense, particularly in the "Points Allowed" department. But....every team listed above us has some flaws too. I don't think there are five that can beat us right now, so I'd put Auburn in the top five.
