Offensive lineman Eric Mack picks Auburn

Four-star offensive lineman Eric Mack committed to Auburn on Wednesday, a day after he de-committed from South Carolina.

We know this because AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers were on the scene reporting it.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound recruit from Calhoun County High in St. Matthews, S.C., is ranked as the No. 2 guard nationally by ESPN and No. 6 by Rivals.com.

Despite committing to South Carolina in the summer, Mack continued looking at other schools in the fall. He visited Auburn in September. After de-committing from South Carolina, his finalists were Auburn and Florida.

Mack is Auburn's 23rd commitment in the 2010 class. That does not include the five January enrollees who count against last year's class. The Tigers can add up to 28 players on the Feb. 3 National Signing Day.

Mack is the fourth high school offensive line recruit in the class, joining five-star Shon Coleman of Olive Branch, Miss., four-star Ed Christian of Valdosta, Ga., and three-star Chad Slade of Moody, Ala.

The Tigers already signed two junior college players — Roszell Gayden and Brandon Mosley — expected to play on the offensive line.

Let's update the commit list:

AB, where do we stand on Latt

He's down to Auburn and South Carolina and might take an unofficial visit to the Plains this weekend.

The recruiting sites seem to think Auburn has a good chance with Lattimore. I trust their judgment.

Of course, it'll be interesting what having another five-star running back commit in the class does to his decision. Some guys like to be The Guy wherever they go.

Auburn is in a unique position to show that it can feature two talented running backs and have them both go in the top 5 in the NFL draft. They call us Running Back U for a reason.

That was a completely different coaching staff, though. I think Gus Malzahn's track record of using multiple backs is a much more relevant selling point.

Andy, I think it's trending nowadays towards squads needing more than one good back throughout the season anyway. For injury and production sake. It definitely helps when there isn't that much drop off from one guy to the next like Gus had in Arkansas. If McCallebb doesn't get hurt against Ball St., we could of potentially had two 1000 rushers. I kinda wish we would get Seastrunk instead of Lattimore for some reason. One power back (Dyer) and one finesse.

While there's always a chance for a surprise, I don't think Auburn is actively pursuing Seastrunk any more.

This is shaping up as the top-rated class that Auburn has ever signed. Let's hope there are no de-commits between now and Feb. 3rd!
