Here's what Auburn head coach
Gene Chizik has had to say so far ...
- "Obviously it's going to be a fun weekend. We look forward to playing LSU and playing another great SEC game."
- On the passing game problems: "You can't pinpoint it on one thing. There are 11 guys out there." He said it could be protection, routes, timing, etc. "We feel strongly that we're going to get that rectified. We've just got to get back on track."
- On LSU's offense: "They're very, very talented." Like the big offensive line. Very athletic. Big targeted receivers. And three senior tailbacks. "They've done some really good things," he said. "They do some things that pose some problems for you." First thing is to stop the running game, Chizik said.
- On LSU RB Charles Scott: "This will be a great challenge for our defense, because he's a very physical back," Chizik said.
- Thinks LSU's cornerbacks are big and physical. "This might be a little different challenge for our receivers from what they've had all year," Chizik said.
- On the run defense: "If we're going to win the football game, we definitely have to stop the run. We know that. It can't be three quarters. It's got to be four quarters."
- Chris Todd's shoulder is "fine."
- "October is the stretch for us that we knew was going to be really difficult." That's not just because of the schedule but because the newness is gone. (He said this Sunday too).
- Thinks going into Tennessee and winning was big for the team in helping it gain confidence about going on the road.
- LSU had a bye last week. The advantages? "The obvious. The NCAA you only get so much time to prepare. And when you get two of those ..."
- Thinks it's invaluable for the coaches to go through film study too.
- It doesn't change the way Auburn prepares. "We've just got to do what we do better than we have the last two weeks."
- Josh Bynes and Craig Stevens basically don't have backups. Chizik said it affects everything Auburn does in practice. He also said they aren't the only two in that situation."I have to give those two a lot of credit. They're playing a lot. That's not easy to do."
- Eltoro Freeman might be in the linebacker rotation. "He's got to earn it," Chizik said.
- Question about defensive player winning the Heisman. Chizik thinks it would have to be a cornerback with a bunch of interceptions who probably returns kicks and punts too. So, basically, Charles Woodson.
- Auburn is a underdog going into Saturday's game. "We don't talk about it because it really doesn't matter. ... It doesn't matter if we're the overdog or the underdog, we literally pay that no attention."
- On the team's morale (and this is a rough transcription): "We're 5-2. We're not 2-5. Our guys know that we have a good football team. We're not going there. Our coaches are very positive. Our kids are very positive. We've had a lot of success. We go into every game knowing we have a chance to win the game. We're all marching in the same direction. Everybody's on the same page."
