NCAA regional: Auburn 11, Clemson 10, Final

We're blogging inning-by-inning for the Auburn-Clemson game. Follow on Twitter for scoring updates as they happen.

9TH INNING
Auburn 11, Clemson 10: Wow. Just, wow. Creede Simpson, a defensive replacement for Trent Mummey, in the seventh, hit a three-run homer to left when Auburn was down to its last out. He did it on a 1-2 count, too. Auburn's dugout came pouring onto the field at home plate to celebrate. Austin Hubbard still on the mound. Clemson scored one run on a wild pitch, with Richie Shaffer sliding in just ahead of Hubbard's tag. Clemson put runners on the corners with two outs when Hubbard got Jeff Schaus to pop out to second. Ballgame. Here's the quickie story. Back with more in a bit.
8TH INNING
Clemson 9, Auburn 8: Clemson avoided trouble. Brian Fletcher legged out a one-out infield single before Tomas Cruz got Hunter Morris to pop out to third in foul territory in a tense at bat. Tony Caldwell struck out to end the inning with Fletcher on second. Clemson didn't score in its half of the inning, losing a leadoff single after Caldwell caught Kyle Parker stealing. Auburn has Kevin Patterson, Casey McElroy and Justin Bryant coming up.
7TH INNING
Clemson 9, Auburn 8: Big rally for Auburn, which loaded the bases and tied the game after Justin Bryant worked a walk off reliever Tomas Cruz and Justin Fradejas reached on an infield single. Trent Mummey almost legged out an infield single after nubbing one off the end of the bat, but he was thrown out by a half step. Have to imagine if he had two healthy legs that he would have beaten that one out. Strange move between innings, with Creede Simpson coming in for Mummey in centerfield after he had already taken the field. Mummey was not pleased, to say the least. Wound up and fired his glove into the dugout as he came off the field. Auburn couldn't hold the lead again. Mike Freeman ripped an RBI double down the right field line to put Clemson on top again.
6TH INNING
Clemson 8, Auburn 6: Auburn got a run back when Justin Fradejas hit his second homer of the regional and his third of the year. It looked like a lazy pop up, but it kept going and stayed fair, barely getting over the big wall in left. Austin Hubbard had gave up a harmless two-out single (although it nearly drilled him going up the middle). Still a two-run game heading to the seventh.
5TH INNING
Clemson 8, Auburn 5: Brian Fletcher did it again for Auburn, hitting a two-run homer to center to make it 4-1. It was Fletcher's 22nd homer this year and the 49th of his career. That ties him with Columbus native Frank Thomas (1987-89) for third on Auburn's career list. Auburn didn't stop there, getting an RBI double by pinch hitter Kevin Patterson to make it 5-1. Clemson is on its third pitcher, right-hander David Haselden. But Auburn starter Slade Smith's ride came to an end. Clemson strung together three straight hits to get a run across. Brad Miller added a two-run double to right-center that ended Smith's day after 4 1/3 innings. John Hinson greeted reliever Austin Hubbard with a two-run homer to right on the very first pitch. It gave Clemson its first lead at 6-5. Spencer Kieboom added a two-out double and Addison Johnson an RBI single. Jeff Schaus flew out to the warning track with two on to end the inning. That was an 12-batter, seven-run inning for Clemson
4TH INNING
Auburn 2, Clemson 1: Auburn chased Clemson starter Will Lamb but couldn't get on the board. Reliever Jonathan Meyer struck out Justin Fradejas with two runners on to end the inning. Lamb lasted 3 2/3 innings. He gave up two earned runs on six hits, walking a batter and hitting another. Only 59 pitches for the lefty. Slade Smith continues to cruise for Auburn. He's given up one uneared run on three hits in four innings. He has two strikeouts and a nine ground ball outs.
3RD INNING
Auburn 2, Clemson 1: Auburn looked like it was in business with a leadoff double by Trent Mummey. But he got caught between second and third on Dan Gamache's bunt attempt. Questionable managing there. Mummey was on second with nobody out. And Gamache is a lefty who could have easily advanced the runner without a bunt. Instead, Auburn didn't score. Slade Smith looked like he would have another easy inning, getting two quick out. But Mike Freeman reached on an error by Justin Bryant (probably should have been a hit, though). Jeff Schaus walked before Kyle Parker hit Clemson's first ball in the air, a lazy fly to left. But Brian Fletcher lost it in the sun. The ball dropped for a double, giving Clemson its first run. Near disaster after that, as right fielder Justin Fradejas spins around to catch a high fly ball to end the inning. Major catastrophe avoided there.
2ND INNING
Auburn 2, Clemson 0: No runs for Auburn, but it hit the ball hard. Ryan Jenkins hit one that pitcher Will Lamb snagged. Casey McElroy hit a sharp grounder up the middle that second baseman Mike Freeman stopped with a dive, throwing to first in time for an out. No runs for Clemson either. Slade Smith has gotten five ground ball outs so far. That's a good sign.
1ST INNING
Auburn 2, Clemson 0: Auburn's hot bats carried over into the second game. Trent Mummey took one for the team, getting hit by a pitch. After a sac bunt by Dan Gamache, Brian Fletcher ripped an RBI double into the left field corner. Hunter Morris followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Nothing for Clemson in the first. Second baseman Justin Bryant looked like he tweaked a hamstring trying to backhand a ball that went for an infield single. The trainers looked at him but he stayed in, showing no ill effects when he ranged behind the bag to snag a grounder and get a force out at second.
