Pawlowski: Fletcher, Mummey 'getting better'

Injured Auburn outfielders Brian Fletcher and Trent Mummey are nearing a return, just in time for the Tigers' NCAA regional opener against Jacksonville State on Friday.

Fletcher (bruised hand) and Mummey (quad) both suffered injuries that prevented them from starting the Tigers' final SEC tournament game against Ole Miss last week.

"I think both of those guys have progressed pretty well," Auburn coach John Pawlowski said Thursday afternoon. "Every day I saw signs that they're getting better.

"Just in our short practice today, Trent was moving around pretty good out in centerfield, tacking balls during BP. Both of those guys swung the bat. Fletch swung the bat pretty good in BP. I think they're making great progress and I would hope both of them would be in the lineup tomorrow."

Fletcher hit .356 with 20 home runs and 70 RBIs this season. Mummey, who missed the first six weeks with an ankle injury, batted .371 with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs in 31 games.

First pitch for Auburn's game against Jacksonville State Friday at Plainsman Park is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
