Auburn practice observations: Day 3

Auburn was in shells but had a pretty unremarkable practice Friday night, at least for the viewing period we reporters had. Nevertheless, I wrote down some observations. Here they are:
  • Ryan White was in an orange jersey again but didn't stick with the quarterbacks the whole time. He was in a few drills with the QBs for part of the open practice, but watched on the sideline during some special teams drills while the quarterbacks were on another field.
  • Not a great kicking day for Chandler Brooks. He knuckled a couple low ones, getting one blocked.
  • The punt returners did one drill where they caught the ball with one hand. Mario Fannin, Quindarius Carr and Eric Smith looked pretty smooth doing it. Two hands must be where it gets complicated.
  • The returners were also using black footballs with gold tips during the night practice. I'm not sure what that's for, but maybe it's to better focus on the nose of the football.
  • WR Travante Stallworth was out there but had his knee looked at at one point. It doesn't look like he's quite 100 percent.
  • DE Justin Delaine limped off the field at one point. Looked like it might have been cramps or something. He was dressed out today, though.
  • OL John Sullen was working at right tackle during an offensive line drill again. It looked like it was the second team.
  • Trooper Taylor got pumped after CB Neiko Thorpe turned in a strong effort during one of the sled drills, running across the field to give him a back bump while yelling, "I see you 1-5!"
  • WR DeAngelo Benton didn't dress out, but his arm wasn't in a sling. Still had a plaster cast on his right hand.
  • RB Michael Dyer never participates in the special teams drills, just like the other running backs. I'd say he'll have a pretty significant role if that's the case. Dyer, by the way, seems to wear a sleeve on his right leg all the time. That was the same knee he iced after practice when we spoke to him earlier. Don't know if that's something he's always done.
  • CB Anthony Morgan had a similar wrap on one of his legs. Looked like he was limping a little bit.
  • LT Lee Ziemba might be the best lineman on the team, but even he had to do bear crawls along with OL A.J. Greene afterward when some of the other players had already finished up.
  • And lastly, former QB Chris Todd was in attendance. Guess his NFL career isn't taking off. Still good to see him out there.

Could you go into a little more depth about Chris Todd? Is he trying to make it in the NFL as a free agent at all?
Thank you.

Andy, are you a UGA fan? That was a most sarcastic article from a "auburn" beat writer.

On the sarcasm comment, are you reading the same article I'm reading? This is a practice report, and there is not even a hint of sarcasm. If you're looking for sunshine pumpers, go to bleacherreport.com.

Thanks for the attention to detail info Andy.
