Quick scrimmage notes: Kodi Burns has strong scrimmage

Gene Chizik just finished speaking after today's scrimmage. Here are the highlights:
  • Tried to work more on offensive pace and rhythm. "It was very effective," he said.
  • Guys who stood out: Kodi Burns. "He's really taken it as a personal thing to help us on special team. As a pass catching receiver right now, he's done some great things. He's a great Auburn guy."
  • They did 80-some plays. Did punt return too.
  • Burns on punt team, punt return. "He's trying to do everything to help us."
  • Signs of life in the running game, although he wanted the Tigers to run the ball more than they did. As for controlling the line: "I don't think we're there."
  • Cam Newton had a good night. "A lot of the quarterbacks had a good night," Chizik said. High completion percentage for Newton and a couple touchdowns.
  • On the defense: "I still see good effort. We feel like we've go the continuity for who our first-line guys are for the most part. It's just developing depth."
  • Right tackle had the same rotation.
  • Michael Dyer carried the ball a lot tonight. "Did some good things," Chizik said. "We're going to continue to work him."
  • On Dyer: "His head was swimming the first week and a half. I think he's playing a little bit more without thinking. It's going to be a continuous learning process for him."
  • That's three scrimmages in six days for Auburn. "That's pretty taxing. That's by design."
  • Walk-ons Josh Harris, Wade Christopher and Woody Parramore were awarded scholarships.
  • Punt returners: Darvin Adams, Jonathon Mincy, Quindarius Carr, Anthony Morgan.
  • No deadline for deciding some position battles. The staff will have those discussions tomorrow, though.
  • Zac Etheridge did not participate again.

Good stuff, Andy. Thanks. Etheridge is starting to seem like a no go.

against a defense that was a sieve last year?

Not sure how much of this negative talk from the coaches is accurate or how designed to send messages.

I noticed that they said the D starters were mostly set. This means they were probably 2nd teamers a lot.
