Baseball: Auburn 9, Mississippi State 6

A six-run outburst in the first inning propelled Auburn to a 9-6 win against Mississippi State at Plainsman Park on Friday night.

Casey McElroy spurred on the first inning rally with a three-run homer. He went 3-for-4 for the Tigers (31-15, 13-9 SEC), who moved a step closer to clinching a spot in the SEC tournament.

Justin Fradejas went 3-for-5, extending his hitting streak to 27 games. Tony Caldwell had two hits and two RBIs. Hunter Morris hit a solo home run in the eighth, his 16th this season.

Auburn starter Cory Luckie (6-2) gave up three runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win.

Mississippi State (20-26, 5-17 SEC) has lost nine straight.

The teams play again today at 4 p.m. ET. Auburn's pitcher has yet to be determined. MSU will pitch right-hander Chris Stratton (4-3, 5.64 ERA).

Amy, the baseball draft is usually sometime in mid-June. I think Morris, Mummey and Fletcher will certainly get drafted. There may be more, but remember baseball players aren't eligible for the draft until after they have finished their junior year.
