Baseball: Auburn takes two of three from Arkansas

The Auburn baseball team made its most definitive statement yet that it's here to stay. The Tigers hammered No. 7 Arkansas 13-2 Sunday to take two of three from the SEC West-leading Razorbacks.

The win puts the Tigers at 30-15 overall and 12-9 in the SEC with three series left to play. They are two games back in the SEC West of Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Auburn starter Grant Dayton (5-2) struck out 10 in seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits.

The Tigers got home runs from Trent Mummey, Kevin Patterson and Ryan Jenkins.

It was part of a 16-hit attack. Mummey and Brian Fletcher both had three hits. Patterson and Casey McElroy drove in four runs apiece.

Auburn does not have a mid-week game because of finals. The Tigers are back in action Friday at home against Mississippi State.

Arkansas (35-10) dropped to 14-7 in the SEC. Here's a look at the SEC standings. Remember, the top eight qualify for the conference tournament in Hoover:
1. South Carolina, 16-5
2. Florida, 15-6
3t. Arkansas, 14-7
3t. Ole Miss, 14-7
5. Auburn 12-9
6t. LSU 11-10
6t. Vanderbilt, 10-9
8. Alabama, 9-12
9. Tennessee, 8-13
10. Kentucky, 7-14
11. Mississippi State, 5-16
12. Georgia, 3-16

minor correction: There are only 3 SEC series remaining. Thanks for the work you put into this blog Andy. Great reading.

You are correct. Three left. Hard to imagine Auburn not making the SEC tournament at this point, especially with Mississippi State and Tennessee left on the schedule.
