LB Chris Landrum commits to Auburn

Chris Landrum, a linebacker from Sweet Water, Ala., said Wednesday that he'll sign with Auburn in 2011.

AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com, Inside the Auburn Tigers and The Auburn Sports Blog reported the news first.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Landrum had offers from Alabama, Duke, Memphis and Tennessee, among others.

Landrum made 68 tackles last year, including 12 sacks. He also ran for 947 yards, earning first-team All-State recognition by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

He is the Tigers' sixth commitment for 2011 and their first linebacker. Here's an updated commitment list:

He sorta decommitted. Not clear if he's still considering Auburn or if "opening" his recruitment was the first of many predetermined steps to Alabama (or maybe even Texas). His whole recruitment has been odd. The common wisdom from those who watch such things closely is that he is a good player who is getting "great" player kind of attention due to his surprise commitment to Auburn and now his de-commitment. The same common wisdom says he is replaceable. As to whether Auburn is still in it for his services, I would guess whether or not he attends BCW2 will tell the tale.
