Jacobs arrives, process continues to drag on

Athletic director Jay Jacobs arrived back at the athletic complex and remarked to one beat reporter that he would like to set up some kind of information relaying system so we wouldn't have to camp out in the lobby. (BTW, he made a similar suggestion last night.)

I don't know what this means, but it doesn't sound good in terms of this situation wrapping up any time soon.

Tommy Tuberville was here at one point. I'm not sure if he is currently at the athletic complex.

I don't believe Auburn will outright fire Tuberville, and I don't believe he will be asked to resign. It seems to me that there is no news because there is probably some kind of intense contract negotiation going on. If Auburn wanted to fire him, it would have already happenned.

The one scenario I could see happening that might result in Tuberville's departure is this.... If Auburn places all kinds of demands or stipulations on a re-worked contract, and Tuberville doesn't like them... that could possibly lead to Tuberville leaving voluntarily.... kind of like the Joe Torre situation in New York last year, where Joe was offered a performance based contract that he didn't like, so he walked.

I want Tuberville to remain the Auburn coach, I don't think there is a better option out there right now, and Tuberville has been great for Auburn over the last 10 years and deserves a chance, but I would not blame him for leaving if the circumstances were similar to the ones Joe Torre faced.

I can't envision a scenario where Tuberville leaves voluntarily. If he is not going to be the coach next year, there is no way he leaves a cent of the $6 million he is owed on the table because he doesn't have to.

That's the trump card he holds in these discussions.
