Rivals adds fuel to the Chizik fire

Rivals.com national college football writer says Gene Chizik will be Auburn's next coach. There no source for the information.

We'll keep monitoring the situation.

There is an Auburn University plane that flew to Memphis today. Memphis is where agent Jimmy Sexton's Athletic Resource Management is located. Chizik is one of Sexton's many clients.

Then again, so are Will Muschamp, Steve Spurrier and Jimbo Fisher.

Bottom line: we'll be watching the return trip of that plane for sure.

I agree AU Donor!! We got rid of a good coach & we're gonna replace him with Chizik?? What's wrong with those idiots at the athletic department??

Surprised is putting it mildly. While I didn't think Muschamp was the right guy there's no way Chizik was a good hire either. The guy went 3-9 his first year then 2-10 the next. They played Baylor, A&M, and OK St from the Big 12 South and the combined scores of those games was 143-62. And his recruiting classes were not good at all. Now, I understand it can be difficult when you've got players going to Iowa and other Big 12/10 schools, but when you don't improve then it doesn't matter. Who was Turner Gill picking up at Buffalo? Sure he's 15-22 in three seasons, but here's the difference: 2-10 in '06, 5-7, in '07, and 8-5 in '08. That's a guy who showed improvement. We didn't need a defensive minded coach--we needed an offensive guy. Rhoads was a good DC, but when the offensive was making a living going 3 and out it didn't matter who was on defense. To spend all this time interviewing proven successful guys like Patterson (TCU), Gill (Buffalo), and Grobe (Wake Forest) only to hire Chizik is disappointing to say the least.

ugh... sigh.... Auburn can do better than Chizik. I agree with Felix... Auburn needs an Offensive minded coach and one that at least has had a little success. Chizik has had no success whatsoever as a HC, and he will do nothing for recruiting offensive players, which is what Auburn needs most.

I'm not thrilled about Turner Gill, but he would be a much better choice than Chizik.

Agreed. This hire has Gregg Robinson written all over it. Remember him? Texas DC before Chizik who replaced a guy that was a proven winner in the 'cuse. Where's Robinson now? Sitting at home unemployed because he couldn't improve on the job Pasqualoni had done.
