Jay Boulware to coach Auburn's special teams

Jay Boulware, who spent the last two seasons as Gene Chizik's running backs/special teams coach at Iowa State, is the newest assistant to join Auburn's staff, a school spokesman confirmed. He will coach special teams.

The 36-year-old Boulware joins offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, defensive assistant James Willis and running backs coach Curtis Luper on Chizik's staff.

Boulware is a 1996 graduate of Texas, where he lettered twice as an offensive lineman. He started his coaching career there as well as a graduate assistant.

He's also had coaching stops at Northern Illinois, where he recruited Michael Turner, Arizona, Stanford and Utah.

UPDATE: The official Auburn release is out regarding the hire. Some quotes:

Boulware:
“I’ve had the good fortune of working with Coach Chizik the last two seasons and I am thrilled to be joining his staff at Auburn. Auburn has a wealth of history and tradition and combined with the outstanding staff Coach Chizik has already put together with Gus Malzahn, Curtis Luper and James Willis, I can’t wait to get started.”

Chizik: “I’m very familiar with Jay and we are extremely pleased to have him coming on board with us at Auburn. Jay has a great work ethic, a strong knowledge of special teams, and he is a very good recruiter. He is a welcomed addition to our staff that we are putting in place.”
