Roof to be new defensive coordinator?

Several outlets are reporting that Minnesota defensive coordinator and former Duke head coach Ted Roof has been hired as Auburn's new defensive coordinator.

AuburnUndercover.com, AuburnSports.com and the Birmingham News had reports this afternoon that Roof will join Gene Chizik's staff. No official word from the school yet.

Roof, who spent his first season at Minnesota last year after being fired by Duke, was at least mentioned for Auburn's defensive coordinator post under Tommy Tuberville last season before Paul Rhoads got the job.

Here's Roof's bio at Minnesota.

Here's his coaching history:
1987 - Alabama Graduate Assistant - Defensive Backs
1988 - Alabama Graduate Assistant - Linebackers
1989 - West Georgia - Linebackers
1990-93 - Duke - Outside Linebackers
1994 - Massachusetts - Defensive Line
1995-96 - Massachusetts - Defensive Coordinator
1997 - Western Carolina - Defensive Coordinator
1998 - Georgia Tech - Linebackers
1999-01 - Georgia Tech - Defensive Coordinator
2002-03 - Duke - Defensive Coordinator
2004-07 - Duke - Head Coach
2008 - Minnesota – Defensive Coordinator

I REALLY like the staff Chizik is putting together.

The only question is, how well can they recruit?

I think recruiting has been first and foremost in Chizik's mind.

Luper and especially Taylor come in as highly-regarded recruiters, and Willis established himself enough at Auburn to be deemed worthy of being retained.

I think you throw Malzhan into the mix who at least has recruited in the south for Arkansas for a year is a plus. And if Tulsa does well in its bowl game, which I'm sure plenty of recruits interested in Auburn will watch, that's only going to help his credibility and our momentum.
