Auburn-LSU pre-game

You're looking LIVE at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. The blog successful survived two nights on the town -- first in Biloxi, then in New Orleans -- with all limbs still attached (although the wallet is a little bit lighter).

First impressions of Tiger Stadium: Wow. This is a pretty nice place. Very nice outside area, plenty tailgating going on, cool looking stadium and a clean, spacious press box. In fact, here's a picture from where I'm sitting.

Anyway, I'll be updating the blog up until gametime with any pre-game notes that might come up.

I'll start with the usual rundown of facts from the notes (and while you're here, you might as well follow the blog on Twitter for instant updates leading up to the game):
  • LSU leads the series 23-19-1.
  • LSU has a two-game winning streak in the series for the first time since 1995-96.
  • Each of the last five games of the series have been decided by a touchdown or less.
  • This is Auburn's first ranked opponent this year (LSU is No. 9). The Tigers have won nine of their last 14 games against teams ranked in the AP Top 10.
  • Despite the struggles of the last two weeks, Auburn is still seventh nationally in rushing offense (247.3 ypg), eighth in total offense (464.9 ypg) and 12th in scoring offense (34.9 ppg).
  • Auburn has only allowed five sacks through seven games this year, tops in the SEC. LSU's defense has only five sacks on the year, fewest in the SEC.
  • Auburn's defensive struggles notwithstanding, it's still 24th nationally in turnover margin (+.7), tied for 18th in interceptions (9) and tied for 30th in turnovers forced (14).
  • That being said, the Tigers have only forced one turnover the last two weeks.
  • RB Ben Tate is seventh in the nation in rushing (122.3 ypg) and have five 100-yard rushing games. He's topped the century mark in all four of Auburn's league games.
  • Linebackers Craig Stevens (62 tackles) and Josh Bynes (60 tackles) have both eclipsed their season totals for tackles from last season.
  • LSU is allowing only 14.5 points and 322.5 yards per game, fourth and seventh in the SEC respectively.
  • Since giving up 478 yards to Washington in the opener, LSU has given up just 291.4 yards per game.
  • LSU is tied for first in the SEC in turnover margin (+1.17).
And for you recreational gamblers out there, LSU is a 7.5-point favorite tonight. And just so it's on the record again, I picked LSU to win the game 26-20. I think Charles Scott gets going tonight against Auburn's rush defense, which has been spotty all year.

5:51 update: Auburn just came out for pre-game stretching. The Tigers will be wearing blue tonight. There had been some talk that LSU would wear purple tonight but it's in its customary white home unis.
  • LB Eltoro Freeman is here. We'll see how much he plays.
  • WR/PR Anthony Gulley is wearing No. 8 now that Harry Adams is no longer on the team. That's his second number switch of the year.
5:56 update: Just got an updated lineup sheet with these changes:
  • Freeman will start at RLB in place of Adam Herring.
  • Antoine Carter will start at left DE for Michael Goggans for the second straight game.
6:00 update: DL Zach Clayton (ankle) is here and dressed. He's missed the last two games.

6:03 update: Sophomore D'Antoine Hood (Central-Phenix) is working with the second team during warmups at cornerback. Auburn's going to need someone now that Adams is off the team. T'Sharvan Bell, another option, is working at safety.

Does it count that we've played a ranked team since West Virginia is ranked now?

Ranked at the time of the game I should have said.

Wow, we look absolutely terrible. Penalties, turnovers. Help.

The offense has died. R.I.P. 10-24-2009. It was fun while it lasted.
