Todd trying to put struggles in the past

I wrote a story for today's newspaper about quarterback Chris Todd's recent struggles. Here's how it starts:

AUBURN, Ala. — Chris Todd considered himself lucky.

LSU fans somehow didn’t get the Auburn quarterback’s cell phone number last season, so they were unable to barrage him with endless messages like they did to Florida’s Tim Tebow two years ago.

“I know my Facebook got hit up quite a bit,” Todd said. “I’m not big on Facebook anymore, so it’s not going to work this year.”

It’s a good thing: given Todd’s sub-par performances recently, they’d have plenty of ammunition. Since lighting up the scoreboard in Auburn’s first five games, Todd has seen his early season numbers come back to earth with a giant thud the last two weeks.

The senior completed 58.7 percent of his passes (81-for-138) for 1,230 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception as the Tigers started the season 5-0.

The last two weeks against Arkansas and Kentucky, he’s completed 48.1 percent of his passes (25-for-52) for 213 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Not coincidentally, Auburn (5-2, 2-2 SEC) lost both games.

Todd has had an arduous journey throughout his college football experience. Adversity either builds character or destroys a person. I think Todd's case is the former.

Now is the time when you draw on something deep within yourself and prioritize. Focus on what you have to do, block out the annoying background noise and look to your team. Draw strength from your team. As long as everyone still believes in each other there is always a chance.

This is the same team that started the season. Don't forget that. Yeah, injuries are taking a toll. Fatigue is a nagging reminder of the weekly pounding.

Most people don't know the subtle cumulative effect of having your muscles crushed deep down. When we say that depth is a concern, this is why. Other teams are able to sub guys in and out so that they might only be playing two-thirds the snaps that, for example, our linebackers are playing.

See the field, Todd. Get # 13 involved in the passing game, coach. Let Shoemaker punt. Put Freeman in at WS Linebacker. Throw the ball to Trott and Smith. Throw to Tate. These are the things I would do to improve our point production.

Yea, and TODD when you do get out of the pocket, it is OK to run the ball! RUN TODD RUN!

Nice article, Thanks Andy. I hope Todd rebounds this week.

I'll suggest adding stuff like names of athletes to the labels at the bottom of each blog to help readers in finding relevant articles through search engines etc.

I've considered doing that, but then the "Labels" bar on the side becomes ridiculously long with every player on the team.
