Tigers cite lack of focus as reason for poor performance

I wrote a story for today's paper about Auburn's lack of focus in the latter part of last week. Here's how it starts:

AUBURN, Ala. — Gene Chizik sensed it. Something about his Auburn Tigers just wasn’t right during practice last week.

The players were lethargic, going through the motions at times, perhaps a little too satisfied with what they had accomplished during the first five weeks of the season.

“I just felt like the focus of our team was a little bit out there,” Chizik said. “I didn’t feel like we were really focused on the details of the game. I told them that Thursday. I felt like we played that way.”

The result, a 44-23 drubbing by the Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark., certainly backs that up.

“I think that gave us a little reality check,” linebacker Craig Stevens said. “Everybody went out there today seeing that we weren’t invincible out there. I feel like everybody’s back focused like we were in the beginning of the season. I think that’s going to pay off in the end.”

Well Hell, that happens. I still rather be with a loss or for that matter NO WINS and Still be an Auburn Tiger than on the side of any other team in the nation...WAR EAGLE...We love Auburn

I'm sorry, but I'm real happy with where we're at so far and honestly I felt like this had all the makings of a trap game. but with what CGC was saying, and just any sport in general, isn't that what coaching is all about? motivating players when you see that they're losing focus and maybe getting too full of themselves. we looked really lethargic offensively and even though the defense didn't do too many favors they were left out on the field too long by the O. just my opinion i'm not tossing it all on CGC or the staff, but coaching is sposed to motivate and keep players focused.
