Baseball: At midway point, Tigers in position for SEC berth

Auburn hosts Kentucky this weekend in baseball. Here's how today's story starts:
AUBURN, Ala. — The standings say the Auburn baseball team is only one game better at the midway point of the SEC season than it was last year.

Coach John Pawlowski thinks the difference is much more substantial.

“I think we have experience that I think will really help us down the stretch,” Pawlowski said. “If I look at the halfway point and I said, ‘Hey, we’re right in the middle of it, right in the thick of things, we’re right where we want to be,’ I’d say, ‘Yeah, we have a chance.’ ”

The Tigers (25-13) are 8-7 in the SEC, tied for third in the West and, more importantly, tied for fifth overall. The top eight teams qualify for the SEC tournament in Hoover, Ala. Auburn hasn’t made it in six years.
