Spring practice No. 15: Still no QB decision

Here are some quick notes and quotes from today's interviews after spring practice No. 15:
  • Still no decision on the quarterbacks, as if we expected one. Head coach Gene Chizik said the quarterback competition will probably continue into two-a-days in August. He said all four could still be the starter.
  • Chizik was asked if he'd feel comfortable with one guy if Auburn had to play a game tomorrow. "I don't know that I could go out on that limb and say that," he said. "Thank god we don't need to name him tomorrow. We need more time."
  • Clint Moseley didn't quite think the race is as wide open as Chizik made it seem. The redshirt freshman was refreshingly honest in saying he thinks he's probably lagging behind the rest because he's so inexperienced. "I've never been second, much less fourth," he said.
  • Moseley, as most know, was a star at Leroy High, a small school where he really could do no wrong. He talked about how he had a major change of attitude midway through last year, after he began hearing from coaches for the first time that he wasn't doing anything right. As soon as I can get some quotes transcribed from the interview, I'll get some more up on this.
  • Chizik said he'll touch base again with Tyrik Rollison, who sat out the spring for academic reasons after reports surfaced last winter that he'd transfer. Chizik didn't give an indication of whether Rollison would be back or not.
  • Curtis Luper said he expects Mario Fannin to be The Man next year. "It's obvious to me that Mario can do what Ben (Tate) did for this offense," Luper said.
  • Luper said Fannin didn't fumble once this spring.
  • How quick will Luper throw Michael Dyer into the mix in August. "Real quick," he said. "That's the plan."
  • Luper booked a 1,000-yard season last year for Tate, and it happened. He did the same for Fannin on Monday. "Mario will run for 1,000 yards if he stays healthy," Luper said. "No question. Write it down. Bold letters."
  • Luper left one caveat: "If he stays healthy, because he has a propensity to get banged up every now and then."
  • And Dyer? How many yards for him? "He'll get 1,000 too," Luper said with a smile. Bold letters for that one? "You better put that one in small print," he said, fully laughing. "Until I work with him in practice."
