Baseball: Auburn salvages finale against Alabama

Grant Dayton gave up one run in seven strong innings as Auburn won the finale of a weekend series against No. 23 Alabama on Sunday 7-1.

Dayton (4-1) struck out six and walked none. He scattered seven hits.

He was ejected in the eighth after hitting Taylor Dugas. Auburn head coach John Pawlowski was also ejected. Both teams were issued warnings for bean balls Saturday.

Auburn (18-10, 5-4 SEC) got home runs from Justin Bryant, Kevin Patterson and Creede Simpson. Bryant, Patterson and Casey McElroy all had two hits.

Columbus High grad Taylor Wolfe (2-1) took the loss for Alabama (19-8, 4-5 SEC), giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

The Tigers are back in action Tuesday at home against Georgia State at 7:30 p.m. ET. They host South Alabama on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. before a three-game home series against LSU starting Friday.
