Maryland is set to hire Connecticut's Randy Edsall as its next head coach, according to ESPN's Joe Schad.
Edsall emerged as the frontrunner for the job and was scheduled to meet with school officials Sunday, according to the Washington Post, a day after his Huskies lost to Oklahoma 48-20 in the Fiesta Bowl.
The Baltimore Sun reports that former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach remains a candidate. An official announcement is expected Monday.
Malzahn, Auburn's second-year offensive coordinator, reportedly interviewed with Maryland a week and a half ago. He didn't comment publicly about it.
"Right now, my only focus is helping us win a national championship," Malzahn said Friday. "I'm not going to let anything distract or get in my way of us doing that."
Malzahn turned down a lucrative head coaching offer from Vanderbilt last month, agreeing to an extension with Auburn that will pay him around $1.3 million annually. It makes him the highest paid assistant coach at a public university.

Whew!
Now maybe we can get back to just football. I know Coach Malzahn is going to be a great head coach someday, but I'm glad his focus is 100% on this BCS Championship game. WDE!!!
It's reported from Joe Schad. I don't believe it. I don't believe anything he says anymore.
The Pittsburgh job just came open, again.

Yeah this would be good news if Schad had any credibility.
Yup, keep posting attacks on me, Anonymous. I can delete them all day.
BTW, Schad proved to be right on this one. Maryland has confirmed it.
Strike a nerve?
Nope. But it's my blog. I won't stand for personal attacks.
was hoping to see some good discussion w/ 10 whole comments, but it turned out to be some knucklehead getting his comments deleted over and over...
