Anyway, it's still a good three hours until gametime, but I figured I'd set up the pre-game blog post. Be sure to follow the blog on Twitter if anything major develops before the game. Otherwise, I'll put minutia and observations up on this post, so check back periodically.
As usual, I'll go through the notes to give you some things to know before the game starts:
- Auburn leads the all-time series 53-51-8. The Tigers are 18-10 in Athens.
- Georgia has won three straight in the series, however. The last time the Bulldogs won four in a row was in 1944-48, when it won five straight. That was part of an 8-0-1 stretch that ended in 1953.
- The teams have met 112 times, tied for the seventh longest rivalry in college football history (Wisconsin-Minnesota, a rivalry I hold dear to my heart, is No. 1 with 118 meetings).
- To give you an idea of how close the series has been, 49 points separate the all-time score (Georgia 1,747, Auburn 1,698).
- Auburn is 10th in the nation in rushing (230.0 ypg), tied for 11th in scoring offense (35.0 ppg) and 12th in total offense (450.3 ypg).
- The Tigers are on pace for a school-record 5,854 yards of total offense this year.
- Auburn has held four of its last six opponents to less than 35 percent on third-down conversions. That's a MAJOR improvement from earlier in the season.
- Auburn RB Ben Tate is 12th nationally in rushing (114.2 ypg) and has six 100-yard game this year. His 3,101 career yards are fifth-most in school history.
- Tigers WR Darvin Adams leads the SEC in receiving touchdowns with nine.
- Auburn DE Antonio Coleman leads the SEC in tackles for a loss (12.5) and is tied for second in sacks (6.5).
- Tigers CB Walt McFadden is tied for the SEC lead in interceptions with four.
- Georgia WR A.J. Green leads the SEC in receiving yards per game (91.5) and receptions per game (5.5). His 732 yards are second in the league, and this is despite missing last week with a bruised lung.
- Bulldogs LB Rennie Curran is second in the SEC with 82 tackles, averaging 9.1 per game.
- Both kickers -- Auburn's Wes Byrum and Georgia's Blair Walsh -- are 13-for-14 this year.
- Auburn is third in the SEC in scoring offense (35.0 ppg); Georgia is 10th in scoring defense (26.1 ppg).
- Auburn is fifth in the SEC is passing offense (220.3 ypg); Georgia is 11th in passing defense (211.1 ypg).
- Georgia is first in the SEC in punting average (44.0 yards); Auburn is 12th in punt returns (3.8 yards).
- Auburn is tied for the most turnovers forced in the SEC (19); Georgia has more turnovers than any SEC team except Mississippi State (22).
- The Bulldogs, by the way, ahve a -16 turnover margin this year. The Tigers are at +4.
- Georgia is the most penalized team in the SEC (77.3 ypg); Auburn's opponents have been the least penalized this year (38.6 ypg). That should be interesting to watch.
6:00 update: Tate will wear No. 4 instead of his usual No. 44 to honor injured teammate Zac Etheridge.
6:14 update: RB Onterio McCalebb is here and dressed. Don't know if that means he'll have a major role tonight.
6:38 update: LB Adam Herring (heel) is not on the field for warmups. Don't know if that means he didn't make the trip. DL Zac Clayton is here and warming up.
6:44 update: Demond Washington returns the final punt before the team gathers near midfield during warmups. Interpret that any way you want.
