Live blogging Gene Chizik teleconference

Gene Chizik is here for his weekly teleconference. Here's what he's had to say:
  • Proud of the team for fighting the whole game. "They willed that one," he said.
  • Thought Auburn played physical with a very physical team.
  • "We played well enough to win."
  • Whole level of the defense picked up when Zac Etheridge went out. Thought Mike Slade filled in adequately.
  • Talking to the doctors, it appears Etheridge is out for the season. Chizik said they're hoping for a full recovery.
  • Doesn't think Mike McNeil will be an option. "But we'll put everything out on the table."
  • Auburn's arranging something to go see him at the hospital.
  • Chizik gave Rodney Scott a ton of credit for staying "as still as the night" underneath Etheridge. "I've got to give that young man a lot of credit."
  • On replacing Etheridge: "Really difficult. He is without question one of the leaders of our football team. It's going to be tough."
  • Chizik decided to give RB Onterio McCalebb a week off to recover from an ankle injury. "We've got to get him 100 percent," Chizik said. "He's not the same guy without that speed." Doesn't know what they'll do this week with him.
  • Chizik would like to get the starters out early this week but said he doesn't think like that. "We've got to go win the game," he said. "We've got to battle to win."
  • Thinks Travante Stallworth is coming along as a speed sweep option in McCalebb's place.
  • On getting stopped on short-yardage situations. "We've got to execute better."
  • He thinks Antoine Carter's health has been a big boost to the pass rush. He also thinks you're seeing Antonio Coleman play with two healthy hands now. The edge guys are the biggest difference.
  • On getting pressure with a four-man rush: "Anytime you can get pressure with four, why bring five or six?"
  • On the delay of game for going too fast: "I'm not going to comment on any of the officiating."
  • On Eltoro Freeman: "I thought he was again productive. He's going to get better. He's always active because he is always around the football."
