Prized defensive end Corey Lemonier picks Auburn over Florida State

Auburn had a National Signing Day announcement go its way when prized defensive end Corey Lemonier from Hialeah, Fla., picked the Tigers over Florida State. He made his announcement on ESPNU.

"They've been telling me the truth ever since I went to their camp," he said. "Coach (Tracy) Rocker, he never told me anything bad. He told me I'd have to come in and work to play."

The 6-foot-5, 223-pound Lemonier is ranked is a four-star recruit by Rivals and a five-star by Scout. Rivals has him as the No. 3 defensive end and the 35th-ranked player in the country. Scout has him as the No. 7 defensive end.

He played in the Under Armour All-American game last month after recording 75 tackles and 15 sacks for Hialeah High his senior season.

Lemonier joins Justin Delaine and Craig Sanders as defensive ends in the class. Auburn also expects to sign junior college transfer Joel Bonomolo.

Here's Scout's take:
"Size, speed and athletic ability are three traits that make Corey Lemonier one of the top defensive players in the country. A great first step allows him to get the edge on any given play and is a disruptive force once in the opposing backfield. Like any player entering his senior season of football he needs to work on his overall strength but as he grows and continues to get bigger he will be a force at the next level."
Barry Every of Rivals had this scouting report:
  • Speed: Division I Player
  • Size: Division I Player
  • Strength: Division I Player
  • Agility: Blue Chip
  • Lateral Pursuit: Blue Chip
On the Hoof: He has excellent height and is muscular - yet very lean - meaning very little body fat on his current frame. Shoulders are not overly wide, thus his ability to gain enough weight to ever play strong side is limited. He does have very long arms and can reach out and tackle someone from a distance.

Needs Improvement: Lemonier must stay lower off the ball and not stand up right away, exposing his body to blockers. He will also need to add at least 20 pounds to be effective versus the run at the next level.

Most Impressive: I don't care what 40-time he ran at a camp, he has very good football speed and is a serious pass-rushing threat. Lemonier also has excellent lateral movement and can run sideline to sideline in pursuit.

Conclusion: Most likely a redshirt candidate until he gains needed weight unless he goes into a situation where the depth chart is limited. I expect him to be a two-to-three year starter with NFL potential.
Here's a YouTube video of Lemonier from his junior year of high school:
