WR Trovon Reed finally in the fold

Good news, Auburn fans. Thibodaux, La., wide receiver Trovon Reed finally got his letter of intent in.

Reed, a four-star recruit by Rivals and five-star by Scout, chose to come to the Plains despite a late push from in-state LSU. He is Louisiana's top-ranked recruit.

He is the prized receiver of the class. Rivals has him as the No. 4 receiver and the No. 46 overall recruit nationally. Scout ranks him as the No. 7 receiver. He was a U.S. Army All-American Game.

The 6-foot, 173-pound recruit played quarterback at Thibodaux. He'll be a receiver in college, and his 4.4 40-yard dash speed should come in handy.

What do the scouts have to say? Glad you asked. Here's Scout's take:
"Reed played QB at Thibodaux but will play WR and could even get a look at CB if the team needs him there. He is very elusive and has big-play potential when he has the ball in his hands. Getting his blocking and route running down will be something that Reed will need to work on but his speed and quickness should allow him to play early."
Here's Barry Every's scouting report from Rivals:
  • Speed: Blue Chip
  • Size: Division I Player
  • Strength: Division I Player
  • Agility: Blue Chip
  • Ball Skills: Division I Player
On the Hoof: Very unassuming on the hoof and slight in stature. He is built like a like a cornerback.

Needs Improvement: Reed needs to get stronger because his frame will not hold a ton of weight and needs to have a more consistent effort while practicing.

Most Impressive: His speed is lighting-bolt fast and he has very good hands. He is used to having the ball in his hands and will score if hit in stride.

Conclusion: A serious candidate for punt and kick returns, which he will be given an opportunity to compete for early in his career. He may also be used on third-and-long as a freshman because he is a serious vertical threat.
And here's a YouTube video of Reed's highlights
