Basketball adds Clemson transfer Noel Johnson

This happened yesterday at the moment Cam Newton declared for the draft, so it didn't really get its due. But here's some info from Auburn about basketball about the transfer of Clemson guard Noel Johnson:
Noel Johnson, a 6-foot-8, 200-pound, sophomore guard has transferred from Clemson to attend Auburn University and play basketball in 2011-12, head coach Tony Barbee announced Friday. Johnson will be eligible following the 2011 fall semester and will have 1.5 years of eligibility for Auburn.

"We are excited about Noel joining the Auburn Family," Barbee said. "He is a talented player. When you have a guy with his size and his skills, a 6-foot-8 guard who can handle it, who can shoot it, who can pass it, he is a matchup nightmare for teams. He is a big-time shooter. When he lets the ball go you think it is going in every time. He shoots with range. He can do a lot of things. He is very skilled."

Johnson played seven games for Clemson this year, averaging 2.9 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.1 minutes. As a freshman last season, he averaged 4.8 points in 32 games.

He was the No. 3 small forward in his class by ESPNU coming out of Fayette County High School in Fayetteville, Ga., in 2009.

Johnson enrolled in classes at Auburn on Thursday. He is the son of Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson, a star at Wichita State from 1976-79, who played for the NBA's Golden State Warriors.

Auburn has a basketball team? Who knew......

It's a long year this year, but next year Auburn should start to make some noise in the SEC.

And a big thumbs down to the 'fans' who booed the team at their last home game. A young team with a short bench and a new coach, and you boo?

Really? REALLY?

Who booed? I was at the LSU game and even with only six points in the first half, I didn't hear any booing. The last game was AT Kentucky. To which game are you referring?

How do you have half a year of eligibilty left? I thought it was all or nothing? And how does that effect his play at Auburn? Does he basically lose that 1/2 year?

This team has talent, some talent. Barbee is a good coach. They just need a consistent player they can count on and someone to just give them a spark.

Since he transferred midway through this year, he would sit out the non-conference portion of next season, basically, then be eligible for SEC play.

This year is a mulligan. Basically a rebuilding year. Next year we will see big progress.

I don't understand this addition. Why bring in a guy that can only play 1.5 yrs when you need to be building a base and can use all the spots available?

I agree that the team gets a pass this year. With the new signees and some injured players returning we should look a lot better next year. i predict year 3 will be a trip to the tourney.
