Byrum accepts invite to East-West Shrine Game

The man who scored the game-winning points in Auburn's BCS national championship victory against Oregon won't be in town to formally celebrate it next week.

Senior place-kicker Wes Byrum has accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game in Orlando, Fla., on Jan. 22, the same day as Auburn's championship celebration in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Byrum made a 19-yard field goal as time expired to lift Auburn to a 22-19 BCS title game victory against Oregon on Monday. It was the sixth game-winning kick of his career.

He finished his career with a school-record 363 points, fifth in SEC history.

Byrum is the first Auburn player to play in the East-West Shrine Game since Jonathan Wilhite in 2008. Kickoff for the game at the Florida Citrus Bowl is set for 4 p.m .ET. It will be televised by the NFL Network.
