Tony Barbee expects suspended center Rob Chubb to play before end of season

Auburn center Rob Chubb remains suspended indefinitely after being arrested and charged with four misdemeanors nearly two weeks ago, but coach Tony Barbee said he expects the sophomore to play before the end of the season.

Chubb, 20, was arrested in the early morning hours of Jan. 30 for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, attempting to elude a police officer and resisting arrest. He was released on $1,800 bond and has an April 7 date in Auburn Municipal Court.

But Barbee didn't close the book on Chubb's Auburn career.

"He'll play at some point again before the year is out," Barbee said.

Barbee said there are athletic department policies for when an athlete is arrested and when alcohol is involved.

"There's a process we have here in the athletic department that I'm trying to figure out. It's new to me," Barbee said. "So that's still taking place. But he's still suspended from all team activities."

Chubb played in 21 games this season, with 16 starts. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds. He's missed the last two games.
