ATHENS, Ga. — Earnest Ross scored a career-high 30 points and forced overtime with a furious four-point sequence in the final 13 seconds, but Auburn still lost to Georgia 81-72 at the Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (16-6, 5-4 SEC) got 22 points from Jeremy Price, 20 from Travis Leslie and 16 from Trey Thompkins to avoid a potential bracket busting loss.
Georgia seemed to have the game put away, but Auburn (8-15, 1-8 SEC) rallied to force overtime. Ross made a layup with 13.7 seconds left to cut the Bulldogs' lead to two, then stole the inbounds pass near midcourt and made another layup to tie the game at 67 with 10 seconds remaining.
Georgia's Gerald Robinson missed a runner at the other end and a tip-in by Leslie at the horn was waved off by officials, sending the game to overtime.
The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 14-5 in the extra session.
