Live blogging Gene Chizik's press conference

Gene Chizik has come and gone. Here's what he said:
  • "Got a great challenge this week. This is going to be another extremely tough SEC game."
  • "Kentucky is an extremely tough football team. We obviously found that out last year."
  • Called offenses explosive. Doesn't see much difference in this year's team.
  • On shutting down Randall Cobb: "I don't know if you can shut Cobb down."
  • "To me, they do a great job of using their personnel in the right way." Impressed with Cobb's versatility to run the ball and catch it. "They just know how to get their guys the ball."
  • Doesn't see much difference with the team under Joker Phillips instead of Rich Brooks. Said they were physical. "That's their way of life."
  • Said Derrick Locke and Cobb combine for 340 yards per game (from scrimmage, punts, kicks, etc.)
  • On playing closer to a complete game against ULM: "I feel like we were more in the right direction as opposed to the wrong direction. I don't think that last week we took a step back at all."
  • Better this year than last year: "I don't know what the difference is yet. I hope that we're a more consistent team. I hope that we improve more than we did last year. We're going to find out this month of October how far we have come in a year."
  • Said when the starters came out last week, their job was to watch their replacements and coach them up.
  • On the benefit of getting guys rest last week: "I think it's big. Anytime you can take guys that you know are going to play 600, 700 snaps, anytime you can take 30-40 snaps off is huge."
  • Said Cam Newton was disappointed in some of his choices as a pocket passer last week. "He's a very smart player. He understands the value of not doing it twice."
  • On DT Nick Fairley: "I'm really proud of where he's gone. I think he's made strides as a football player and understanding that the carryover you have from practice to gameday is legitimate. ... I think last year when he got here, he's obviously a physical presence, but I think it was a lot of moving parts and he was just trying to break the huddle. Whereas now I think he's trying to be a better player."
And that's a wrap.

Scottie B - maybe to clear his name, AB will spill the beans on who asked the inane question.

Which inane question would that be?
