Savage update

Today's Albany Herald quotes Aairon Savage's brother as saying yesterday's surgery was only to correct the torn ACL and the injuries were not as severe as initially thought. If that's the case, the MCL might not have been damaged. Not sure about the dislocated kneecap, though, because that's apparently an injury that wouldn't necessarily require surgery to correct it, if doctors are able to re-locate it on the spot. I'll try to ask about it after practice.

I like reading this blog. In fact I bought a copy of your paper the other day here in Auburn so I could read your articles. I'm 18 and originally from Panama city but headed to Chipola Junior College to play baseball but I want to major in journalism i think I want to do something like your doing. I'm up here in Auburn on vacation to watch practice and agree with a lot of your opinions on practice and appreciate your reports. If you have any tips or advice for me to get where you are at please email me at bayeagle@mac.com. Thanks.

Great blog. I subscribe to pay sites, but have found this to be the first site I now go to for information. Thanks for a wonderful job.
I do have a question. Regarding this "Code Red" crap, is there any validity to it? Or is it just idiot radio announcers and media people with an ax to grind or pot to stir. Don't know if you are comfortable answering. Just sick of people finding things that were common place for me on a hot practice field 20 years ago such a big deal. Can't speak for any of them, but I feel personally that I have come to realize a lot of these guys have neither played or not paid a whole lot of attention when at a practice on a preseason summer day.

.....I've been impressed with this blog, too.

.....My opinion on the "Code Red" thing is that my local Birmingham "writers" are stirring the pot, as always. Ray Melick had a "is it OK to pick on smaller teammates?" lead off, this morning. Finebaum set 'em all off earlier this week!

.....Technically, I think the expression "code red" means that the coach ordered the hazing. I don't think that's the case, here. Tuberville has said as much.

Thanks for the response. B'ham area also. Melick covered BAMA most recently I think. I find him to be biased more than he would like to think.
Thus you realize my frustration. I hate to lose a talented kid, but I also realize football is a battle of attrition. It is not a pretty sport. For all the glitz and glamour we revel in on Saturday, there is a whole other world the rest of the week. Those of us that have played realize that we are only as good as our weakest link. We strive as a team to play our best and make sure the guy that is next to us is giving his best. Regardless of what his best is. I can tell you I always tried to do my best, but if someone thought I wasn't, I can guarantee I would have been called on it.
"Code Red" was Melicks" way of being cute I know.
I have listened to stuff for years and swallowed it down. I guess this recent attack of B'ham media has set my jaw. Thanks for tolerating an old man's frustrations and ramblings.

I think way too much is being made of the fight. I think DeRon wasn't especially happy at Auburn after the spring and will probably be happier somewhere else. I think the fight was just what pushed the car off the cliff. He's not a bad kid, he just didn't get what he was looking for at Auburn. There's a lot more to this than a kid deciding to leave only because he got in a fight. It's just convenient column filler and talk-show fodder for people who like to speculate on things they know nothing about, which bothers me a little bit because I was the one that reported it.
