- Former Auburn wide receivers coach Greg Knox will make his return to Jordan-Hare Stadium as Mississippi State's running backs coach, writes Kyle Veazey of the Clarion-Ledger in this notebook.
- Veazey recently did a live chat about the upcoming MSU-Auburn game. Read the replay here.
- More on MSU freshman wide receiver Chad Bumphis from Brad Locke of the Northeast Mississippi Journal.
- Ron Higgins of the Memphis Commercial Appeal writes that MSU running back Robert Elliott ran last Saturday in a way he hasn't in a while.
- Auburn's a 14-point favorite in Saturday's game, not that the blog condones gambling. In fact, forget that I brought it up.
- Here's an interesting Web site where you can track all of the voters in the Associated Press poll and how they rank the teams from week to week. Auburn is on only on ballot, Matt McCoy's of WTVN-AM radio in Columbus, Ohio. He has the Tigers ranked 22nd, accounting for all four of their points in the poll. Want to see an interesting poll? Try Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, who bucks many conventional norms in early-season polls and goes with whoever impressed him the most in the first week, hence BYU being No. 2, Oklahoma State No. 3 and Boise State No. 4.
- Things are starting to make sense for Alabama RB Mark Ingram, writes Michael Casagrande of the Decatur Daily.
- Joe Cox's Georgia teammates are rallying behind the quarterback after his sub-part opener against Oklahoma State, writes David Hale of the Macon Telegraph.
- Nothing is too corny for Tennessee when it comes to safety Eric Berry's Heisman Trophy campaign.
- Think Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham wishes he had gone pro last year? Tough break to get this kind of injury after coming back for your senior season.
- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel lauded Terrelle Pryor's compassion after the sophomore quarterback wore eye black patches during the first week honoring his sister and Michael Vick.
- Deadspin points out that The Valley Courier might not be prioritizing things after its sports editor was hospitalized with serious injuries after being run over on the sidelines of a high school football game.
- ESPN.com's Pat Forde is back with the Forde Yard Dash, listing Gene Chizik's strong debut as one of the SEC's high points in the first week.
- And lastly, The Onion weighs in on what Michigan is doing to improve in 2009. My favorite: "To build confidence and provide core strength, permitting players to have knees on ground for push-ups."

ridiculous amount of info here. really impressive, thanks for the hard work. hopefully you'll be able to get the AU community involved in your blog soon, although i'm sure actual readership is pretty good.
by the way, jay tate's blog has an unbelievably involved readership, but his blog itself is nowhere near the quality of yours. and his readers spend more time socializing than they do talking football. by A LOT. can't stand going there for those reasons, and for the fact that you can't visit the site without a loud video ad loading as soon as the URL comes up. those of us reading AU football at break time have to scramble for the volume controls. not fun.
so good luck with the blog bud.
Thanks for all the info, and please keep it coming!
