Auburn 15th in coaches' poll, 16th in AP poll

Auburn moved up five spots in both major polls Sunday, coming in 15th in the latest USA Today coaches' poll and 16th in the Associated Press poll.

The Tigers were tied for 20th last week in the coaches' poll. Auburn (2-0, 1-0 SEC) is one of six SEC teams in the top-16, joining Alabama (1), Florida (7), LSU (12), Arkansas (13) and South Carolina (16).

Auburn was 21st last week in the AP poll. It is the lowest ranked of the six SEC teams by the media, following Alabama (1), Florida (10), Arkansas (12), South Carolina (13) and LSU (15).

Clemson, the Tigers' opponent Saturday, is the first team in the others receiving votes category of the coaches' poll. Clemson is 37th in the AP voting.

  • The Tigers' ranking is solidifying. Of the 59 voters, 52 have Auburn between 10th and 20th.
  • Joe Giglio of the Raleigh News & Observer has Auburn the highest of anybody at 10th. He is also a radical in having South Carolina 7th.
  • Chip Cosby of the Lexington Herald-Leader is the Tigers' biggest believer of SEC writers, putting them 12th.
  • Kirk Herbstreit, who's been a big Auburn backer, has the Tigers 13th.
  • Of the voters in Alabama, Jon Solomon of the Birmingham News has the Tigers 15th and Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News has them 18th.
  • Three voters have Auburn unranked: Adam Zuvanich of the Lubbock (Texas) Avalanche-Journal, Chad Cripe of the Idaho Statesman and Dave Foster of WZTV in Nashville, Tenn.

In August, I was secretly hoping we'd be a top 10 team. After 2 games, I think we're overrated at 15. I hope I'm way off base.

Tiger, you're way off base! :-)

I hope Cecil Hurt isn't in a position to do Auburn some damage with his vote. He would leave an undefeated AU team out of the top 25 if he thought that would do us dirt, and 99% of his readers would cheer him for it.
