Halftime: Auburn, Georgia tied at 21

AUBURN, Ala. — Despite swirling allegations about his recruitment last year, Auburn quarterback Cam Newton started Saturday against Georgia. From the looks of it, the Tigers need him.

Auburn and Georgia are tied at 21 after one half at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Auburn reached its decision to play Newton after speaking to the NCAA recently. Newton seemed unfazed. He has 201 combined yards and has accounted for two touchdowns at the break. He got 31 of his 90 rushing yards on a touchdown drive on the opening drive.

But Georgia answered with 21 straight points, getting three first-quarter touchdown passes from Aaron Murray, who had 137 passing yards.

Two of those scores went to receiver A.J. Green, who had five catches for 114 yards.

The other went to fullback Shaun Capas after Bacarri Rambo intercepted a Newton pass that slipped through Emory Blake's hands and returned it to the Auburn 9.

The Tigers pulled within 21-14 early in the second quarter on Onterio McCalebb's 4-yard touchdown run to the edge.

Newton zipped an 18-yard touchdown pass to tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen just before halftime to tie the game.

With the pass, Newton became the first player in SEC history to throw for 2,000 and run for 1,000 in the same year.

Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley has played through a shoulder injury suffered early. After a brief trip to the locker room, he played the rest of the half.

How far is Cam from 20/20? Is it one passing and four rushing now?

Unnamed source has confirmed to me that Auburn has won the SEC West and is going to Atlanta. WAR DAMN EAGLE!!

Wow, I hope Auburn "University" fans are real proud of their program. Booing hurt players, throwing punches, real classy. But I guess nobody here even cares, why would you care when your "University" paid someone to come play for their team. Even Cash Newton hates Auburn "University", but like his father says, "the money was just too much."

Even Brandon Spikes things Auburn has dirty players, and he gouges out peoples' eyes.

Hey Andy, I think the two above comments need to be deleted. I would've done the same thing to protect a teameate. Georgia played dirty and then started to go straight for Fairly and pinned him down and started punching him. The Auburn players on the field were just trying to protect their teamate. Unlike Georgia, the AU bench stayed put on the sidelines. People really need to think their comments through a little bit, my gosh. WAR EAGLE!

I'm sorry, but no one else saw these mythical punches thrown by Georgia players. Your players are thugs, the coach is a joke, exactly what I expected from Auburn "University". Why should my comments be deleted, did I curse or say anything untrue? Didn't think so. Cheatin' Eagles! (Or is it Tigers?) (Now that I think about it, what ARE plainsmen? Is that our mascot?) I'm glad Georgia went on the field, some people need to learn that their cheap shots aren't going to be tolerated. Have fun losing your accreditation, Auburn "Univeristy".

Yeah laf, thUGA's really classy, Fulmer Cup winnars and chop blocking Nick, gimme a break. The hit on Murray's knee was not dirty. Gang banging the guy on the ground was.

I don't know why I thought anyone from Alabama would have a rational thought. Have fun enjoying this win, because it's 0-11 when Auburn "University" gets the death penalty for Cash Cam.

Word verification: Roll Tide!

Really? Come on. It was an emotional game. Kids lost their cool. Are forgetting about Boykins two personal fouls on our last td drive? The chop block on Fairley? Seriously? Take the blinders off. There was a lot of stuff that both teams did that was embarassing.

And classy/thugs? Ok Odell Thurman. And how many arrests has UGA had in the Richt era. What about your oline jumping on Fairley and holding him down? He was blocked into Murray. It was unfortunate. Hope Murray is ok, he is a great talent. But, seriously, don't be a sore loser.

Anon....pretty easy to toss around the trash when you can hide behind your electronic screen. Have fun though...the comments tell us more about you than you are telling us about AU. Proud to be a War Eagle.

Of course we need him. He's the best player in college football this year. The media backlash didn't work this week. This TEAM has overcome so much this year! WDE

I stayed away from the media the last two days just like the team did. At lot happened while I was gone. I would like to congratulate AB though, his newspaper and blog posts have been getting record hits since Newton-gate began. You're on your way to the big leagues buddy.
