Halftime: Auburn up big against Chattanooga

AUBURN, Ala. — The allegations surrounding Cam Newton's recruitment don't seem to be bothering the quarterback.

Newton has accounted for five touchdowns and 341 yards to help No. 2 Auburn build a 48-14 halftime lead against Chattanooga, a Football Championship Subdivision team.

The 48 points are the most the Tigers have scored in a first half since putting up 49 the last time they played Chattanooga in 1995.

Newton, whose name has been in the middle of a recruiting controversy the last 48 hours, has completed 15 of 21 passes for 317 yards and four touchdowns. Darvin Adams has two touchdown catches, Emory Blake one and Terrell Zachery one.

Zachery has seven catches for 148 yards. Adams has three for 98.

Newton also had a 1-yard touchdown run. He has eight rushes (only one by design) for 24 yards, a number lowered by a number of sacks.

Onterio McCalebb scored on a 49-yard run, the third straight game he's broken a long one for a touchdown. It's his fourth play of 49 yards or longer this year.

Mike Dyer added a 37-yard touchdown run just before halftime. He has 76 rushing yards.

Auburn had 484 yards of total offense. The Mocs have 133.

Chattanooga scored on a 98-yard kick return for a touchdown by Brian Sutherland. B.J. Coleman completed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Hughes in the second quarter against Auburn's second-team defense.
