Armstrong tweeted that it was a torn ACL.
"Just got back from the trainer, got a MRI in California, Torn ACL, everything happens for a reason, faith in GOD," he wrote.
The 6-foot-8, 225-pound sophomore from Melbourne, Fla., averaged 2.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 6.6 minutes in 30 games last season but was expected to be a major part of Auburn's plans in Tony Barbee's first season.
Armstrong is the second Auburn player to suffer a knee injury this summer, joining junior guard Frankie Sullivan, who tore his ACL last month.
UPDATE: Auburn just sent out a release. Armstrong will have surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews next week at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham.
Here's a quote by Barbee:
“I feel for Ty just as much as I feel for Frankie as well as the Auburn Family. I’ve always said things happen for a reason, and I truly believe this unfortunate injury to Ty is part of that. Our prayers are with him as he goes through surgery and the rehabilitation process. We look forward to Ty and Frankie joining us on the court as soon as they are 100 percent.”

wow, next thing you know, the new Arena will be converted to an Equestrian facility after AU decides it doesn't have enough players to field a team.
I'm expecting one of the worst seasons in AU history. Anything better will be delightful.
It would have been an NIT year if not for all these injuries. WHAT ARE THESE GUYS DOING IN THE OFFSEASON??? BIZZARE!!
Ty Armstrong will be back stronger than ever, I know this kid well, I know the self determination and resiliency that he has. He has a great work ethic and trust in his creator. This kid is NBA bound.
