Be sure and tell Coach Chizik that the AU "Media Guide" is a pile of crap. Tell him to send me the one that the AU beat hacks received, i.e. the one that is packed with historical data and stats and is more like our "pre-Chizik" media guide.
Tar Heel Tiger:
There are two different books, and there have been for a few years now. I got bit about three years ago with the meaningless publication you apparently just received.
Somebody told me that the "real" media guide can be purchased at bookstores in Auburn, but I haven't tried that yet.
Back in the day I would walk into Beard-Eaves, put down my money and walk out with the guide.
MikeP - New NCAA rules on football media guides arrived the same time as Chizik, I think. So now the public gets a watered down photo-filled version while the beat hacks get the real deal...270 spiral bound pages of info. At least, that's what I've heard. All I know is the Media Guide that I received last year was highly disappointing.
13.4.1.1.2 Media Guide Restrictions. A printed media guide may have only one color of print inside the cover and may not exceed 8 1/2 by 11 inches in size and 208 pages in length. An institution may not produce a separate printed supplemental media guide. Any supplemental information (e.g., historical information, records) may be posted on the institution’s Web site and may be printed in black and white, and provided to the media.
You can't print a separate guide, but you can print it? Makes no sense to me.
Yeah, the media guide isn't Chizik's doing. It's the NCAA's.
Anything that can go to prospective recruits has to be limited by the rules stated above. They did it to stop the arm's race of printing those 400-page behemoths. (Seriously, the Texas one back in the day was a sight to see).
We media types do get a supplement that's all black and white and has all the pertinent info. It's incredibly useful for us. No style. All substance. Perfect. I guess there are perks that remain to being in the newspaper industry.
Not sure if you can purchase that one anywhere, though. It seems like it should be available online, though.
Well, that stinks. I had hoped to buy a "good" one this year. My last good one is now several years old.
Hey Andy: After the season you can put yours on ebay and notify your faithful readers of such. Looks like at least two of us will bid on it!
"Available online" means not having it handy or having to print for hours. Bah!
MikeP - I've got my sniping software armed and ready!
Sniping software? Yikes! I'm so old fashioned I use a synchronized stopwatch.
How's a poor boy to win?
