AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn's offense didn't solve anything that was ailing it in the second half at Mississippi State.
No. 16 Auburn has only 116 yards of total offense in the first half against Clemson at Jordan-Hare Stadium, going into halftime trailing 17-3.
Kyle Parker has touchdown passes of 8 and 24 yards to Jamie Harper, who dove for the second one in the end zone just before halftime. Parker is 16-for-24 for 194 yards. Clemson has 267 yards of offense.
Auburn has produced only a fraction of that. Gus Malzahn's crew has four first downs on five possessions, going three-and-out three times to start the game.
Quarterback Cam Newton is 1-for-7 passing for 23 yards and an interception. Mike Dyer started at running back but gained 13 yards on six carries. Onterio McCalebb leads the team with 35 rushing yards.
Wes Byrum made a 35-yard field goal as the first half expired. It snapped a 64-minute, 29-second scoreless streak for Auburn, going back to the first half of the Mississippi State game.

Twice, Cam had open receivers and floated the ball to them. Once to Adams and once to Kodi for the pick. He doesn't seem to understand the notion of quick strikes when there is a safety floating towards the open receiver.
This is painful to watch.
I like Malzahn's design for the offense.
I HATE Malzahn's playcalling. At times it borders on the insane. You have a minute and a half left, and you run the clock out?

I think we'll all have to realize that a part of Malzhon's offense is there are going to be dead periods. We saw this last year and we're seeing it again this year. His offense will crack along and be a world beater for a couple of quarters, then go in the tank for a quarter or two. As long as we get close to 30 points when the game is over, we should win a bunch.
