End third quarter: Ole Miss 10, Auburn 7

Auburn showed signs of life offensively in the third quarter, gaining 146 yards and getting a 27-yard touchdown run by Ben Tate.

Big break for Auburn on a 37-yard reception by Chris Slaughter up the sideline. Slaughter was clearly out of bounds before coming back in to catch the ball. The referee’s explanation was spotty in the press box, but I believe they upheld the catch after review because Slaughter was forced out before he caught it. Seems like a pretty bad call for me.

The Tigers looked like they were in business later in the quarter after a 29-yard catch by Montez Billings, but Kodi Burns threw a bad pick. The QB stared down his receiver, then tried to fire it into traffic. That’s a bad combo.

Ole Miss WR/RB Dexter McCluster has to be the fastest player on the field. He makes defenders look like they’re moving in slow motion. Very impressive.

HUUUUUGE penalty on Rebels WR Shay Hodge after Ole Miss was stopped on third-and-goal. He got in a shoving match with an Auburn defender and was flagged for a personal foul. That turned a 30-yard field goal into a 45-yarder, which Joshua Shene missed wide right. Mark that as a turning point if Auburn comes back to win this game.
