Women's basketball signs four

Auburn received letters of intent from four players Wednesday (I'm not expecting the men to be announced until tomorrow).

Here they are, with bits of info provided by the Tigers sports information department:

Morgan Toles, PG, 5-9, Fayettville, Ga. (Sandy Creek High)
  • No. 27 prospect in country, 4th best PG according to ESPN.com's Hoop Gurlz
  • Two state titles at Sandy Creek
  • Dad, Alvin, played football at Tennessee; mom, Vicki, played basketball at New Orleans
  • "When you put her on the court along with Morgan Jennings and some of the other great athletes we have out here, we get a lot faster,” coach Nell Fortner said. “That is a really good thing for us, especially with the way we are playing right now. She has a great upside to her and she has not reached her full potential by any stretch of the word."
Blanche Alverson, F/G, 6-3, Buford, Ga. (Buford High)
  • 15.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg last year
  • No. 45 overall prospect, 8th best PF by ESPN.com's Hoop Gurlz
  • Has played for Peach State Elite Black club team since eighth grade
  • 4.0 GPA, plans to go pre-med at Auburn
  • "She has the ability to shoot the three, put it on the floor, she is an excellent passer, and that is a skill that you do not get a lot of kids coming in with anymore," Fortner said.
Nicolle Thomas, G, 5-10, Moultrie, Ga. (Colquitt County High)
  • 16 ppg, 8 rpg, 6 apg, 3 spg last year
  • Ranked No. 24 guard prospect by ESPN.com's Hoop Gurlz
  • "Nicolle has a beautiful shot, is a great three-point shooter, but can also get to the hole very strong,” Fortner said. “Her game is very versatile. She has had to play inside in high school, but will play on the perimeter for us."
P.J. West, C, 6-8, LaGrange, Ga., (Troup County Comprehensive School)
  • 10 ppg, 10 rpg last year
  • No. 25 post prospect by ESPN.com's Hoop Gurlz
  • Led state of Georgia in blocked shots; ranked in top five in the nation
  • Father, Wally, was drafted by Utah Jazz in 1980 after finishing career at Boston Unversity
  • "P.J.’s upside is tremendous," Fortner said. "It is just a matter of how good she personally wants to be"
