Also wanted to touch on the rumor circulating that Tuberville to Clemson was a "done deal." Apparently, radio host Tim Brando and Atlanta Journal-Constitution writer Tony Barnhardt were doing some speculating as to what would be a good fit for the parties involved and the message boards ran with it.
Paul Strelow, the Clemson beat writer for The State in Columbia, S.C., debunked the rumor in this blog post today. Here's an excerpt:
"All this fodder flooding message boards about Tommy Tuberville being a 'done deal' as Clemson’s next coach is just speculation.
So agrees Tony Barnhart, the respected Atlanta-based reporter of all things southern college football – and who allegedly reported it as fact.
Not so, Tony says.
As a regular guest on Tim Brando’s syndicated radio show Monday, Barnhart said he and Brando were discussing Auburn’s situation, and Brando pointed out that when Auburn has made coaching changes, it traditionally has done so before the Iron Bowl against Alabama.
So the two took the idea a step further, pondering what would happen if that played out. And it was logically concluded that Clemson would be a perfect fit for Tuberville for numerous reasons – none the least of which is Clemson doesn’t have a full-time head coach.
'It was all just speculation,' Barnhart said."
