Second quarter: Ole Miss 10, Auburn 0

Two words for that half: Bru. Tal.

The good news, Auburn fans, is that things can’t get much worse in the second half. The bad news, is that the offense looks as bad as it has all year. Here’s some of the ugliness as the Tigers go into the half trailing for the first time this year:
  • Auburn had 80 yards of offense, 31 rushing and 49 passing.
  • The Tigers didn’t cross midfield at any point.
  • Auburn had 4 first downs and 6 punts.
  • QB Kodi Burns is 8-for-14 for 49 yards.
  • Did I mention Ole Miss entered the game with the second-worst defense in the SEC?
  • Clinton Durst has punted 6 times for 241 yards. It’s a bad sign when your punter is your offensive MVP.
I’m really at a loss to describe how bad the offense was in the first half, so I’ll move on. I’m sure there will be plenty of time to talk about it after the game, because I see no chance of this turning around.

I think I might have overstated Ole Miss quarterback Chris Snead’s worth. He looked pretty pedestrian in the first half, overthrowing receivers several times. He did get it together to throw a 2-yard touchdown pass just before the half.

Speaking of that play, it was kind of weird. The ball looked like it got snapped early, because nobody on the line really moved. But the play kept going and Snead found Shay Hodge for the score.

The bad thing is the Tigers have traditionally been a first-half team this year. What does that say about their chances in the second half today? I don’t think a comeback is in the cards.
