Wes Byrum named to Lou Groza watch list

Senior Wes Byrum was named to the watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to the nation's top kicker.

Byrum was a semifinalist for the award last year, when he set Auburn's single-season place-kicker record for points in a season with 99. He was 15-for-16 on field goals and made all 54 of his extra points.

Byrum enters the season fifth on the school's all-time scoring list with 240 points. He needs 73 to surpass John Vaughn (2003-06) as Auburn's all-time leading scorer.

There are 30 players on the Lou Groza watch list, with 15 semifinalists returning from last year. This year's semifinalists will be announced Oct. 29, with three finalists being selected Nov. 22. The winner will be announced Dec. 9.

no way will he beat Vaughn, cause unlike under Tubby we actually have a scoring offense nowadays. Byrum's a great one, though. No idea WTF happened in 2008.

I don't know. All it takes is 50 TDs and 8 FGs. Not too far fetched to think he could get there. War Eagle

FYI Wes scored 99 points last year (15 field goals and 54 PAT's). Anywhere near that and he will destroy Vaughn's record. Given this years offence, 100 plus is not out of the question.

Woops. MATH FAIL! That's why I went to law school. :)

GO BYRUM!

Go Wes! Someone needs to obliterate Vaughn from the record book. 5 FG misses against LSU should remove his name from the records anyway!

he deserved it last year. a travesty i say.

WDE WB!

Watch lists are stupid. Hypothetical, if someone on the watch list gets hurt next week, and his replacement converts 30/30 FG and 45/45 PATs, is he not eligible because he wasn't being "watched."

John Vaughn was a great kicker for his Auburn career. Does anybody think he wanted to miss those kicks against LSU?
Suggesting that "his name should be obliterated from the record book" is nonsense. He's an Auburn Tiger through and through, we were lucky to have him here.

isn't J.Vaughn AU's all-time leading scorer? yeah, i thought so.

dude is cool. one bad game doesn't make or break a career.

just ask Obomanu.
