Newton, Fairley, Chizik take top SEC AP awards

Auburn swept the major SEC awards handed out by the Associated Press on Monday.

Quarterback Cam Newton was a unanimous pick for Offensive Player of the Year.

Defensive defensive tackle Nick Fairley, meanwhile, was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Gene Chizik took Coach of the Year honors.

South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore was a unanimous pick for Freshman of the Year.

Left tackle Lee Ziemba and center Ryan Pugh also made the first team. Ziemba was a unanimous pick.

Auburn had three players on the second team: right guard Byron Isom, defensive end Antoine Carter and linebacker Josh Bynes.

Safety Zac Etheridge earned an honorable mention.

Berry doesn't even get honorable mention? Sweet Christmas he's getting hosed.

Also, am I the only one who would take Akeem Dent and Josh Bynes over Chris White and Kelvin Sheppard? The linebackers are a little screwy. I guess it gets lost in translation with some being in 3-4s, some being MLBs.

What about our WR's? Darvin is by far one of the best WRs in the conference, if not country. Emory and T-Zac both make huge plays when they need too. And Kodi doesn't get honorable mention? I have the utmost respect for that kid. Kodi is one of many of my heroes on this team.
